Last year’s December issue of the Oundle Chronicle was nominated for four Shine School Media Awards, including Best Newspaper and Best Editorial Content. After a tough judging process involving 300 schools, the paper was shortlisted for two awards.
The competition was judged by a panel of industry professionals, including members of the Hearst Corp, the BBC and the Telegraph Media Group, notably Guy Black; the awards were presented by editors of The Daily Mail, Simon Heffer, and Cosmopolitan Magazine, Louise Court, at a ceremony at Stationers’ Hall in London.
The Oundle Chronicle was awarded the prize for Best Community Initiative, and was also Highly Commended for the Harrison Cup, presented by The Master of The Worshipful Company of Stationers, which sponsored the competition.
The Company’s citation about the Oundle Chronicle said: “What really shone out was the quality of reporting, with pupils doing some excellent work in uncovering stories in their wider community instead of just with their school.”
