Lindsay Clarke Prior, 45, known as Bert, went missing in January 2016. After an extensive search, his body was found on 28th March. The police issued an urgent appeal when he went missing from his home in South Road on January 21.
Bert grew up in Oundle and was well known in town.
Friends, family and members of the public rallied together to join in the search for Bert as soon as he went missing. Posters were displayed in every shop and Facebook alerts were shared across the site.
In the early stages, a police spokesman said: ‘Police would like to thank everybody who has given up their time over the weekend to join in the search for him.’
As time went on, however, hope of finding him alive diminished. When a body was discovered in the River Nene in Peterborough in late March, the ‘Help find Lindsay Clarke Prior’ Facebook page announced: ‘We were visited by Northants Police late yesterday afternoon, to advise us that a body has been recovered from the River Nene at Peterborough.’
It was confirmed to be Bert on the 8th April. ‘Thursday morning came the news we were expecting, but never wanted to hear. The family are devastated to hear this sad news. It has been a long eleven weeks, but having everyone’s support had helped us through.’
