For those looking for ways to keep fit, learn how to swim or just enjoy water-based fun, Oundle School’s swimming pool provides a community hub, offering a range of swimming activities throughout the week, which are available to members and non-members, in addition to a dedicated free swim session during term-timefor the over 60s.

The long course, 43.5m six lane swimming pool is open to members at lunchtimes and evenings on weekdays and evenings at the weekend, subject to the school timetable.

With a full range of activities and lessons for ages four months to adults, pool instruction provides a natural progression of stages, including adult and child classes, preschool lessons, leading to the swim school.

Experienced teachers are committed to providing lessons that are fun and inspire confidence in the water, whilst developing skills and ultimately stroke technique and stamina.

Adult and Child sessions on Thursday mornings are designed to introduce babies and young children to water, with an emphasis on play, whilst developing water skills and confidence. Adults accompany their child in the water, alongside a swimming teacher.

With a ratio of four children to one instructor, the pre-school lessons on Fridays provide a stepping stone from adult and child classes. The lessons allow children to swim independently and gain confidence, preparing them for the swim school.

Following a structured ASA teaching program, the Otters Swim School classes cater for all, from non-swimmers to competent swimmers. The swimmers work their way through the ASA awards, receiving certificates and badges to reward their success. Close links with local swimming clubs, many of which train at the pool, allow advanced swimmers the opportunity to swim at competition level.

Private swimming lessons are available for children and adults who can work at their own pace to improve confidence and develop skills and swimming techniques.

Aqua Aerobics on Mondays is a friendly, lively class. The aerobic low impact shallow water session caters for all abilities, and float belts, hand buoys and mitts are provided to aid resistance, increase mobility, fitness and muscular strength.

During the school holidays, a wide variety of alternative courses are offered. These include snorkelling, learn to dive, rookie lifeguard and the National Pool Lifeguard qualification.

And just for fun, the popular Inflatable and Fun Session involves 15 metres of walls, boulders and a slide; it’s a great opportunity to race your friends and family along the amazing obstacle course.

Membership is not required to attend lessons or courses. Full details can be found on the Oundle Enterprises website: www.oundleschoolenterprises.org.uk.
